Back on X
Date: 2024-11-16
Note: I didn't want to write "Twitter" in title, since it's now X, and yes I will call it X. There is a reason Musk changed the name. X is cool, the name, a new beginning.
I don't really want to write much here. I was thinking about going back to X for a while, probably since the summer. I originally quit around 2015 or 16. I had lots of issues back then, both mental and physical, and Twitter played a part in that. Later I didn't like what Twitter has become, with its censorship heavy stance and banning anything that is not on the left. I am not a fan of that. While I was late to live in the communist influence in my country, my brothers and my parents talked a lot about what it was like to have one state tv station (and one night only), newspaper, radio, etc. People didn't have a voice.
In the past decade I also used identi.ca and later different part of fediverse. At first it was a fun place for tech people and mostly free and open source stuff was in the picture. But over a period of time, it become very frogressive (fake progressive), very far leftist. Even if you had a sensible opinion about stuff, or try to see things from different angles, you got harassed, blocked or even booted out from the instance. Fediverse people are very pro-censorship, as they have a central blocklist, where they feature instances they don't like. Instances are different parts of the fediverse. Similar to email, where you can write to gmail, protonmail and many others.
You can do a single user instance if you have the knowledge, but it's enough if you share or post something these admins and friends didn't like, and you will end up on the blocklist (which most instance use, otherwise they would end up on that blocklist), effectively shut you down from most of fediverse.
Fediverse is open from the software side, but on the idea side it is very close minded. You can't joke or just be sensible. If you are not supporting the woke mindvirus like a religious monkey, it can be suffocating most of the times, and not just if you want post about politics, but anything. Culture, open source software, become so divided by these people. You can't be fan of anything without the need to pledge yourself on the altar of wokeness.
These are my reasons to try out X. Especially after Elon Musk buying it, restoring many banned accounts. At least with it, it restored some of the freedom of the internet. Sadly there are parts of the world where you can go to jail for posting different opinions on X, than the regime (khm, UK).
How do I like the algorythm? I read so many shit about it. How Twitter/X is algorythm centric. What they don't tell you is, that you have 2 tabs. For you is a tab with your interest that you select after registration, and your general search. The other is the following tab, which is self explanatory.
I am only on X for a couple of days, and I like it. Maybe it's just the rush of information of the first days. I already found some nice people to follow. I try to use my time on it sparingly, because it can be addictive, but that is also true for social network in general. I am looking forward to spending time on it, and if I like it, I can see myself signing up for premium.
