I lost 1100+ tabs in my browser, here is what happened
a ramble of a tab hoarder idiot

Date: 2025-10-26

What can I say, I am a tab hoarder. I like to never close them, since they are way too important for me.

Then it happened. Brave is my trusty browser, and it usually handles tabs and windows well. I can recover them. Not this time. My computer locked up, had to turn off the computer, and when I turned on again, Brave didn't offer the restore tabs function, not even in the menu. I searched for a while for solutions, but then I accepted the situation…

My tabs doesn't matter. I had a dozen of tab groups, trying to get more organized, and lately I really did well, one time I even had only 500 tabs open. After reaching thousand tabs open, it was easy to get to 1100.

Now I have like 20 open, and it feels like I have a new life, well at least on the computer front. My head feels light, and I intentionally started to close tabs that I don't need. I even pinned some that I need currently more, like the Niri wiki (more on that in another post).

The world didn't stop, I have everything I need in my bookmarks (now if I lost my bookmarks that's an entirely different thing).

I know this sounds foreign for people who have like 10 tabs open at max, but some of us just like to access things all the time. I know it's a little bit of a headache sometimes, although Brave has a solid search function.

I am still using vertical tabs, because it's still better than shrinking your tabs to the point, that you can't read or even see the favicon.

I hope I can keep up my new habit of handling tabs different.
