Linkblog for 2023-04-02

Date: 2023-04-02

Once again, here is my irregular linkblog with some of the things I have discovered. Try to make it a little bit more regular this time around, maybe once or twice a week, depeding on how much I read and watch stuff.

Games

LevelCapGaming collected nice boomer shooters (retro style shooters). I love this list, definitely worth checking out these games. Most of them have demo, and indeed Selaco has not been out. For a gzdoom projekt it is quite demanding for my machine.

Since two of my favorite streamers are playing the Diablo series now, I want to mention the DevilutionX source port, which is an excellent way to play the first Diablo game. Most of the stuff is there without distrupting the original experience. Can be played on console and mobile too. Note that you still need the original game files, which you can get on GOG.

Joelchrono12 wrote about his Monster Hunter Online experience.

Also, GOG Spring sale is at its last hours this year.

Movies

Lately I have been discovering some cool guys on youtube, who are sharing their movie experiences. This 3 movie recommendation is from The Movie Cynic, who recommends three totally different genre in this video: Great Films Flying Under The Radar.

Looks like Shadiversity and co, loved the new Dungeons & Dragons movie. Despite some of the article that came before about certain characters, it looks like the movie is decent. I still won't watch it in the cinema though.

Baggage Claim media good video about the highs and lows of Jennifer Lawrence. She definitely was a fan favorite early in her career, but lately she is just an android.

Tech

Have you tried to use tar in your terminal? I am sure most people have problem with it, so check this out: How to save the world with tar.

The Linux Cast made a video about Simple note program. I feel like that we have so many electron stuff. I really encourage people to try out Emacs. Yes, it has a learning curve, but you might find it better than some electron junk. Or you can use nano or ed for simple txt and markdown needs.

Lego

Brickset reviewed the new Indiana Jones set: 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol.

New Star Wars set for young people: 75358 Tenoo Jedi Temple revealed!
