I bought a Lamborghini Countach for Christmas

Date: 2022-12-26

Ever since a little kid, this was one of my favorite car. It looks super retro, since it does't really have any curve, and still with the doors it has some spaceship like, futuristic quality.

I was on a budget, so I opted for a cheaper Countach model, and I had to build it myself. I am really satisfied with the result, and I built it on Christmas Eve. One of my best memories in recent years.

I am even smiling, when I am behind the wheel. Look!

This is from the Lego Speed Champions line, no. 76908. A relative budget Lego car. Recently they made it 2 studs wider, these now have more details, and they are not just playable, but looks very good on the shelf or desk.

I decided for the Lamborghini Countach, for 2 reasons. Mainly because I love this car, probably ever sine I saw Cannonball Run when I was a kid. The second is that I saw very good reviews about it. Luckily there are many Lego youtube channels (real understatement).

(for some reason I couldn't share the time coded stuff, so click here for the Countach segment)

Building the Countach

I would say it is a fairly straightforward build, and the 8+ on the box is the right age group. I never had a problem with the steps in the manual. I am a guy who likes to read the frakking manual. There are some interesting building techniques (check the video above), and some wow moments. You know the "oh that's how this fits".

I think they nailed both the front and rear part of the car, especially the rear section is just amazing for such a small model. I like the minifig too, it has two faces, comes with hair and of course a racing helmet, plus a wrench.

Me and Lego

I have not built any Lego in the past 30 years, I am back to noob level 20. I have two older brothers, and when I was a kid, I inherited their Lego sets, and rarely anything got my own. Of course back then you don't really think about these things, you are just happy that you have so many Lego boxes to build from that you can't get bored: City, Space, Knights, Pirates (I think this was mine actually).

However all it is gone now - which I may never talk about on this site - and one day I had this realization that I want some sets on my own. Just something nice, that I can put out in my room to show. One of the best thing about Lego, that nobody really consider it as just a children's toy. In fact I bet, many dads buy it for their kids and for themselves too (to the great joy of the mother who will of course ask: "how much were those?!"). It is for all ages. Interestingly the company I ordered my sets, I got a little catalogue that's specifically aimed for adults. How did they know? Oh there are some nice sets in there that I will look at close for sure.

I already had my eye on a new Speed Champions car from the 2 Fast 2 Furious movie, a Nissan Skyline GT-R R34. I have never seen an episode of that movie series, but I think the car is looking nice, and it comes with a Paul Walker minifig too.

These sets are relatively on the budget side. I also like the Mercedes duo, which is weird, because I dislike the Mercedes F1 team. But that set is really nice, both cars!

However, Lego is really famous for just building anything we like from it. I learned this new phrase called "MOC" (My Own Creation), these comes from the fans, so others can build it too. Of course these needs specific part, just like official sets (but many are just alternate builds of already existing ones). I already saw some jawdropping MOCs.

Anyway, I have two Lego sets to build, and I think I will merge it in one post. In fact I already started one, in the midst of family visit, which just lead me to a headache (which I don't really get nowadays, in fact I don't remember when I had the last one).

I absolutely love building Lego again, and hopeful I can continue it in the future. Sorry for the bad pictures, but this is what a 5MP, and 9 years old dumbphone gives you (and I love it).

Merry Christmas everyone!
