New Scorn gameplay video
I have to say I don't keep tab on Scorn as much as I'd have liked, it kind of fallen off of my radar. But ever since I first saw a screenshot of it, I was in awe: "this will be a game I want to play". And I don't say that much in the past 10 years. I think most games in the industry are just reboots, rehashes of old ideas, not much originality overall.
However Scorn looks disgusting. It's clearly inspired by people like H.R.Geiger (who design the "Alien" in the movie Alien, among other things). In this demo we see somebody with a weapon, in a seemingly alien ship or building.
The environment is very closed off, full of corridors mostly, and it adds to the claustrophobic atmosphere. The whole gameplay and exploration is slow, and while you are walking you can see some amazingly disgusting monsters.
If you watch the video, please don't eat. It's really disgusting.
There are some kind of weapon upgrades, but it looks like you have a weaponbase, then you attach the different things for different weapons. The weapon itself is alien looking too.
The rush of playing today's fps games, are luckily not present in this. I feel the whole game will be about exploration, interacting with the environment and surviving these creatures. So far I haven't seen much handholding in this gameplay demo. There are no HUD, or any prompts to do things, which is a plus. I overall love the atmosphere and the feeling of just walking in this alien place. We clearly play as some kind of humanoid, because we can see the hands.
While there is no music in this video, I think it greatly add to the creepy atmosphere, and our ears will focus on the excellent sound design, even more.
The game looks amazing, and this one was on a next gen (soon current gen, haha) Xbox Series X. I can't wait to see, how it looks on a PC! There is still no release that for Scorn, but that's fine, if the devs can make it even better.
About Scorn
Scorn is an atmospheric first-person horror adventure game set in a nightmarish universe of odd forms and somber tapestry. It is designed around the idea of “being thrown into the world”. Isolated and lost inside this dream-like world, you will explore different interconnected regions in a non-linear fashion. The unsettling environment is a character itself.
Every location contains its own theme (story), puzzles and characters that are integral in creating a cohesive world. Throughout the game you will open up new areas, acquire different skill sets, weapons, various items and try to comprehend the sights presented to you.
