GOG 2022 Christmas sale: Adventure games
just my recommendations…

Date: 2022-12-13

Looks like another Christmas sale is upon us. While we need to spare money for food and heating more than ever in this modern age, we may not want to forget entertainment. And of course I am not talking about Netflix or Disney+.

Here are some worthy adventure games that can give us some fun times during the holidays and beyond (obviously I can't write about everything, so this list is not full). Sorry if I missed your favorites.

LucasArts classics

Back in the old days, when LucasArts still existed, before the dark times, before Disney, they were one hell of a development company, creating not just Star Wars games, but classics point & click adventure games!

As I looked through the Good Old Games section, I immediately found the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade from 1989, followed by Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

There was a time when even Spielberg was interested in making games on some level, and the result was The Dig. Three years before Armageddon, we are going into space to stop an asteroid. This game is 27 year old, and still worth to play.

If you want something funny, you cannot go further than Grim Fandango (remastered). Or of course Full Throttle (remastered). Unlike Tim Shaffers later adventures in game development, these are fully finished, and classics of the genre.

This line up couldn't be complete with the Monkey Island series, starting with The Secret of Monkey Island (special edition), have a laugh or curse the creators for the puzzles, either way you will have a good time. Best to play with friends and some beer! Hehehhe, I tell you this, cause I only drink once a year.

Syberia series

The Syberia games are classic from Belgium, by the famous comic artist Benoît Sokal. He passed away last year, but his games carry his name into the digital age. Syberia series is an absolute classic, not just in the adventure game genre, but in gaming as well. This year was the 20th anniversary…

Other Microids adventures

If you want something terrifying, look no further than the Still Life series. This is interestingly started with the game Post Mortem.

Some other ones

Gemini Rue is my personal favorite. While it's short, I like that the story has two plots and has some interesting mechanics in a point&click adventure game.

The Broken Sword series is probably the most charming love story on your computer screen. I can truly recommend the first two games!

If you want some mystery Gabriel Knight will sure help to scratch that itch.
