Movies every day in May: The Salvation

I watched this movie on the 7th, but I was too tied to write even a draft about it.

The Salvation partly drew me in with the Western genre, and Mads Mikkelsen in the main role. It's a Danish made movie. After the German-Danish war of 1864, Jon Jensen goes to America to find a place for him and his family. After long 7 years his family arrived in America, and ready for settling down.

However soon after they are on the way of to their new home, his wife and son got killed, and Jon got his revenge soon after. Of course this is the wild west, and nothing is simple. It looks like the person who killed his family is the brother of Colonel Henry Delarue (played by the excellent Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who is now out for revenge. The guy is your usual A-type douchebag, overlord, but with a stylish red jacket.

Salvation is clearly carried by its characters, although there is underlying plotline about why the major is buying land (played by Jonathan Pryce). The tragic story of endless violence, when it's only ending if one sides completely destroys the other.

Eva Green plays the widow of Delarue's brother, with a tongue twist, and I liked Jon's brother too. Enjoyable western thanks to a bunch of familiar and great actors.
