Movies every day in May: Catch Me If You Can

The English word of "con" comes from "confidence". Catch Me If You Can, is the story of Frank Abignool, sorry Frank Abagnale Jr.

I am not a big Leonardo DiCaprio fan, but I think he should have deserved an Oscar for this role. He played the conman really really well. You know the situation, when you were a kid, and pretended to be sick, so you don't have to go to school and take that test (haha, I don't miss those days)…

Frank run away when his parents announced their divorce, instead of choosing one of them to live with, he decided to pretend to be a pilot and write fake checks. Somewhere along the way, FBI's Carl Hanratty catches up with him unknowningly, but he loses him.

The movie is lighthearted, I don't know much about real Abagnale's life, but the movie certainly has lots of laughs. Frank loves women, and he used his charmed for entry in almost any kind of situation.

We are in the 1960s, so if a woman so a pilot, they almost fall off their feet automatically. Especially if they saw a young one.

Tom Hanks as Hanratty of the FBI, is also good choice, and we could feel throughout the movie that they have respect for each other. Interestingly at the beginning they show "Inspired by a true story", instead of the usual "Based on the true story", which tells us that they took probably even more liberty with the story.

I will certainly read his book, which was credited for the screenplay too. You can put so much in a 2 hour and 20 minute movie. Ultimately I think this what matters the most. To make people interested in the real story. Although it would be nice if they would have been more accurate for sure. I hate it when I read about the real event or person, and like half of the happenings were made up.

Oh and I loved the credits, which was well animated, and very 1960s. The music was very John Williams, and he was indeed nominated for an Oscar.

It wasn't a long movie, I could certainly watch another 30 minutes of Frank succedeeding and stumbling, or I would have loved to see more of his work for the FBI at the end.

As I said, I am not a DiCaprio fan, but in this, he was great.
